My Client is part of a globally renowned Corporation which employs more than 26,000 people worldwide. They develop, manufacture and sell a unique range of 3D hardware and software inspection systems for the automotive, aerospace, medical and electronic sectors and have a worldwide sales organisation. The operational and technical groups are made up of several development and manufacturing sites located in North America, Europe Asia and the UK.
They are ISO9001:2008 and TickIT 5.5. Certified for the design, manufacture and installation of calibrated CMMs and measuring robots. The UK Engineering group is responsible for the development and manufacture of the coordinate measurement machines (CMM), supporting metrology software and also a new range of robotic CMMs (RCA). The Engineering group can also be involved in joint-development activities with other Group wide development groups.
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with highly qualified and experienced Mechanical and Electronic Design engineers, the software development team and System Test Engineers throughout the product development cycle for the whole range of CMMs and robotic CMMs. The range of activities can involve small but crucial modifications based on CIR (continuous improvement requests), cost-reduction and product engineering initiatives, minor and major customer specific developments through to full strategic, multi-disciplined projects. The role activities will involve pure design and also participation in the full development cycle including detailed drawing generation, creation and execution of comprehensive test plans, analysis of results and construction of feedback through reports and improvement proposals/specifications.
The design engineer role will encompass the implementation of "best practice" machine design techniques using 3d CAD software (SolidWorks), ANSYS DesignSpace FEA analysis suite and an intuitive understanding of machine design, strength of materials and kinematics.
The successful candidate will have:
A good degree in mechanical engineering with particular emphasis on design, strength of materials and machine design.
Applicable experience in an appropriate industry would be preferable, but is not mandatory.
Have a good knowledge of international standards applicable to the process of design and (if possible), the design of machine tools.
Experienced with the use of software applications such as Matlab, Simulink, MathCAD (preferred but not mandatory).
